With over 30 years of clinical experience in ophthalmology, he is a senior ophthalmologist specialising in three key areas: refractive surgery, cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery. He began performing phacoemulsification for cataracts in 1995, making him one of the first specialists in China to master this technique; in 2007, he was the first in Guangdong to introduce and utilise the German BIOM3M wide-angle vitreous surgery microscope for complex vitreoretinal procedures; In 2015, he pioneered the implementation of phakic intraocular lens implantation in Dongguan; in 2019, he was awarded the ‘Global ICL 1000’ and ‘Global TICL 500’ honours at the ESCRS in Paris, France (awarded to only 22 individuals worldwide); in 2023, he received the ‘EVO ICL3000 (2023)’ international award.

He has undertaken training at Charité University Hospital in Berlin, Germany; the Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria; and Essen University Hospital in Germany, introducing advanced international techniques and concepts. He has published 13 articles in core domestic journals and two SCI-indexed papers; the research projects he has led have received one second-class municipal award for scientific and technological progress and two third-class municipal awards for scientific and technological progress.

Areas of expertise: vitreoretinal surgery, femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification for cataract surgery, complex cataracts (such as hypermature, hard-core, and glaucoma-associated cataracts), glaucoma shunt implantation, all-femtosecond SMILE surgery and half-femtosecond LASIK surgery, and intraocular endoscopic surgery (ICL lens implantation), etc.

With over 30 years of dedicated clinical practice in ophthalmology, Dr Liu Fei is a rare all-round specialist in China, excelling in the fields of retina, cataract and refractive surgery. He is highly proficient in performing a wide range of advanced surgical procedures on both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Dr Liu has undertaken training at leading medical institutions and research institutes in Germany and Austria on three separate occasions. He is committed to introducing advanced international medical technologies and management philosophies to Dongguan, ensuring they take root and flourish, thereby driving the high-quality development of ophthalmic healthcare services. He has published two SCI-indexed papers, one of which appeared in the US journal *Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery* in 2018.
