PRP Technology Breaks Through Bottlenecks, Solving the Challenge of Severe Dry Eye in Sjögren’s Syndrome
During the conference’s keynote session, Dr. Liu Jiannan presented a groundbreaking academic paper titled “Clinical Study on Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for Severe Dry Eye Caused by Sjögren’s Syndrome.” She comprehensively explained the clinical application pathways, mechanisms of action, and real-world clinical efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) technology in severe dry eye caused by Sjögren’s syndrome. Through a multi-dimensional analysis incorporating typical clinical cases, detailed diagnostic and treatment data, and core technical advantages, she fully demonstrated Dongguan Aier’s scientific innovation capabilities and ability to implement cutting-edge technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular surface diseases, earning high recognition and widespread acclaim from fellow experts in attendance.
Severe dry eye caused by Sjögren’s syndrome is a common and refractory ocular surface disease in clinical practice, for which conventional physical therapy and drug treatments yield limited results. Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital has dedicated years to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye. As a pioneer in the field, the hospital introduced and successfully implemented Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. Leveraging the multiple growth factors released by high-concentration platelets, this approach precisely repairs damaged corneal epithelium, regulates micro-inflammation on the ocular surface, and restores a stable tear film. This breakthrough overcomes the limitations of traditional treatments, transforming the management of moderate-to-severe and refractory dry eye from mere “symptom relief” to “tissue repair and regeneration,” providing patients with severe dry eye in Dongguan and surrounding areas with a more efficient and personalized treatment plan.

In February 2025, Director Ye Jianzhang’s team performed platelet-rich plasma (PRP) eye drop therapy, successfully repairing severe ocular surface damage in a patient caused by drug-induced toxic corneal disease
This presentation at a top-tier national academic conference on corneal diseases not only represents authoritative recognition of the professional capabilities of the Dongguan Aier expert team but also builds a high-level bridge for academic exchange for the hospital. By disseminating Dongguan’s clinical and research achievements in ophthalmology through a national platform while absorbing cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment concepts and innovative technologies from across the country, the hospital accumulates valuable experience for advancing clinical techniques and achieving breakthroughs in scientific research, thereby broadening its development horizons.
