Recently, the 2026 Corneal Disease Academic Exchange Conference, the 25th Annual Congress on Corneal and Ocular Surface Diseases, and the 18th Annual Conference on Corneal Refractive Surgery grandly kicked off in Wuhan, Hubei Province. As one of the most influential academic events in China in the fields of corneal & ocular surface diseases and corneal refractive surgery, the conference gathered top ophthalmology elites nationwide. Renowned experts and scholars assembled to focus on cutting-edge technologies and clinical practice, jointly driving the development of the industry.
The Chen Xiaobei Team from Aier Eye Hospital of Dongguan was honored to attend and showcase its strength on the national academic stage. Director Chen Xiaobei served as both a competition judge and a mentor, bringing powerful academic influence from Dongguan and injecting new vitality into academic exchanges among ophthalmology peers across the country. Under her dedicated guidance, Dr. Sun Xiaoxue won the Clear Vision Award in the national final of the Pursuit of Bright Vision — Case Exchange Series, fully demonstrating the capability and vigour of young ophthalmologists in Dongguan.
It is reported that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pursuit of Bright Vision Case Competition. The event collects typical clinical diagnosis and treatment cases from ophthalmology practitioners nationwide. A panel of authoritative experts selects outstanding entries, with contestants advancing through keynote presentations. It stands as a top-tier event in China’s ophthalmology circle with high professional recognition and academic influence. The competition brought together renowned eye hospitals and medical institutions from across the country. Participants competed in diagnosis and treatment thinking, academic reasoning, and clinical practical capabilities by sharing their own clinical cases. Experts, scholars and young elites gathered to discuss innovations in refractive diagnosis and treatment, and promote the high-quality development of the industry.
Earlier, Director Chen Xiaobei led Dr. Sun Xiaoxue to compete in the South China Division (covering Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Fujian). Amid 5 offline preliminary rounds and competition among 28 teams, they advanced steadily all the way, claimed the championship of the South China Division, and secured a spot in the national semi-final.
As the academic leader of the Refractive Surgery Department at Aier Eye Hospital of Dongguan, Director Chen Xiaobei has dedicated nearly 20 years to refractive surgery. She has completed over 30,000 myopia surgeries in total.
She is among the first batch of surgeons in Dongguan to perform the new-generation robotic SMILE Pro femtosecond laser surgery, the first doctor in Dongguan to conduct full optical shaping surgery, and one of the nation’s first and Dongguan’s pioneering specialists in EVO+ ICL (V5) surgery.
She has been awarded numerous honors, including the EVO ICL 5000-Case Expert, Outstanding Contribution Award for EVO ICL Academic Research, and Certified Expert in China Full Optical Shaping Technology. She also serves as a permanent member of the National Youth Expert Cooperation Group for Phakic Posterior Chamber Intraocular Lens Implantation. Boasting rich clinical experience, she always pursues continuous breakthroughs in refractive surgery technologies.
At the national final, Dr. Sun Xiaoxue, an outstanding representative of young ophthalmologists, competed head-to-head with elite young physicians from China’s top hospitals, including West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Qingdao Eye Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, and Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University. She interpreted the professionalism and sense of responsibility of young ophthalmologists with solid strength.
In her presentation titled Dispelling Clouds to Restore Clear Skies — Reflections on a Case of Perioperative Dry Eye in Refractive Surgery, Dr. Sun Xiaoxue delivered a detailed analysis of key challenging issues closely focused on by clinical practitioners in refractive surgery. She accurately identified the pathogenesis, formulated a personalized treatment plan based on solid clinical experience and professional expertise, and adopted refined therapeutic adjustments to help the patient recover with restored high-definition vision.
