On March 16, *The Ophthalmologist*, a leading global ophthalmology publication, officially released its 2026 Power List of the 50 Most Influential Figures in Global Ophthalmology, recognizing leaders who have achieved breakthrough accomplishments and exerted significant industry influence in the field of global ophthalmology over the past 12 to 18 months.
Professor Wang Zheng, a specially invited consulting expert for our hospital’s refractive surgery department—the drafter of China’s myopia surgery guidelines and the country’s first Fellow of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and Visual Science—was honored to be included on the list for his decades of dedication to the field and his groundbreaking academic and clinical achievements. Professor Wang Zheng’s inclusion highlights the international strength and global leadership of China’s ophthalmology sector, and demonstrates how China’s original innovations are driving transformation and development in the global ophthalmology industry.
It is understood that The Ophthalmologist Power List is widely regarded as the “Global Hall of Fame” of the ophthalmology community. It serves as a recognized barometer of industry trends in the global ophthalmology field and stands as the core, authoritative benchmark for measuring the global influence of ophthalmology experts. Launched in 2014, the list has been published continuously for 13 editions as of 2026. Professor Wang Zheng

Professor and doctoral advisor at Aier Eye Hospital Group. Professor Wang is a pioneer and leading figure in the field of corneal refractive surgery in China. In 1994, he was the first in the country to perform LASIK surgery and is currently one of the experts with the highest number of such procedures performed in China. As a core drafter, he participated in the formulation of the Ministry of Health’s industry standard, *Quality Control for Excimer Laser Corneal Refractive Surgery*, laying a crucial foundation for the standardized development of refractive surgery in China.
Professor Wang Zheng has long been dedicated to clinical and basic research in corneal diseases and refractive surgery. He was the first in China to perform personalized excimer laser refractive surgery and enjoys an exceptional international reputation in the fields of refractive surgery for complex cases and the management of surgical complications. Additionally, he pioneered the use of excimer laser refractive surgery to treat anisometropic amblyopia in children, opening up a new clinical pathway for the treatment of this refractory eye condition. His research achievements have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award, provincial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards, and the Ding Ying Science and Technology Award, making outstanding contributions to the technological advancement and global alignment of China’s refractive surgery field.

It is worth noting that, leveraging the expertise of the Aier Eye Hospital Group, Professor Wang Zheng regularly visits Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital to perform refractive surgeries and participate in academic conferences.
