0769-22660023 June 6 marks the arrival of the 31st National Eye Care Day. Centered on the theme Safeguard Ocular Health with an Annual Eye Check-Up; Secure Eye Wellness for All to Embrace a Better Life, Aier Eye Hospital Dongguan calls on the whole of society to integrate regular eye health management into daily routines, starting with a comprehensive eye examination to preserve clear vision for people across all age groups and life stages.
Eye health matters throughout the entire human lifespan. As public awareness of visual wellness keeps rising, scientifically guided myopia correction has become a popular option for nearsighted people to improve their quality of life. To align with this year’s Eye Care Day initiative, Aier Eye Hospital Dongguan delivers a landmark milestone: the hospital has completed over 800 procedures of the next-generation robot-assisted SMILE Pro small-incision lenticule extraction surgery, presenting a remarkable achievement in celebration of National Eye Care Day.

The milestone of more than 800 robot-assisted SMILE Pro operations stands as a key breakthrough in the refractive surgery development of Aier Dongguan. Compared with conventional SMILE procedures, this upgraded surgery is empowered by three cutting-edge innovations: robotic auxiliary operating systems, real-time intraoperative navigation and ultra-high-speed femtosecond laser. While retaining the traditional flap-free minimally invasive merits of standard SMILE, the technology delivers comprehensive upgrades. The laser operating time per single eye is shortened from 23 seconds to under 10 seconds, bringing transformative improvements in surgical efficiency, precision and intraoperative comfort, winning widespread trust among local residents for its safe and efficient clinical performance.
Backed by the joint efforts of President Liu Fei and Director Chen Xiaobei, Aier Eye Hospital Dongguan introduced Dongguan’s first next-generation VISUMAX 800 device for robot-assisted SMILE Pro in July 2025 and successfully performed the city’s inaugural minimally invasive SMILE Pro operation. It ranks among the first 60 hospitals nationwide and the pioneer in Dongguan to launch this advanced surgical technique.
As leading academic figures of the department, President Liu Fei and Director Chen Xiaobei devote themselves to myopia correction research. They regularly participate in top-tier academic events including the Asia-Pacific Ophthalmology Summit and domestic specialized refractive surgery forums to stay updated on global clinical advances and refine the practical application of cutting-edge surgeries. To date, Director Chen Xiaobei has performed over 20,000 conventional SMILE surgeries independently and completed more than 800 robot-assisted SMILE Pro procedures. Her abundant clinical experience forms a solid safety guarantee for every operation and ensures standardized, secure myopia correction for all patients.
Beyond the fruitful outcomes of robot-assisted SMILE Pro, Aier Dongguan adheres to the mission of making premium eye care accessible to local communities. In recent years, the hospital has taken the lead in launching two other mainstream refractive procedures: customized Full Refractive Sculpture surgery and EVO+ICL (V5) phakic intraocular lens implantation, forming a robust three-technology-driven system for refractive treatment.
Up to now, the hospital has completed over 1,500 Full Refractive Sculpture surgeries and more than 100 EVO+ICL (V5) lens implantations. The full portfolio of corrective surgeries caters to patients with varied corneal conditions, myopia diopters and daily eye-use requirements.

“Drawing on Aier Eye Hospital Group’s global medical resource platform featuring Shared Global Expertise, we prioritize introducing state-of-the-art technologies to Dongguan at the earliest opportunity, enabling every nearsighted patient to access tailored vision correction solutions — this has always been our core mission,” remarked Director Chen Xiaobei. Following the personalized, patient-centered and precision-focused principle of custom-fit surgery for individual eyes, exclusive solution for every patient, clinicians formulate bespoke correction plans based on each person’s unique ocular parameters, addressing surgical demands ranging from mild and high myopia to complex special eye conditions and covering all real-life vision correction scenarios.
The milestone of 800 robot-assisted SMILE Pro cases represents a phased triumph of Aier Dongguan’s clinical expertise in refractive treatment and also serves as a fresh starting point for the hospital’s ongoing commitment to public eye health.
