Academic Feast · Wisdom Gathers in Yangcheng: Director Fu Chengbin Invited to Attend the CMA Congress on Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology

DATE:2026-05-21   HITS:284

From May 14 to 16, 2026, the 21st National Congress of Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA) was held at the Guangzhou Yuexiu International Congress Center. As an industry event decided upon through special deliberations by the Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the CMA, and jointly hosted by the CMA and its Ophthalmology Branch, with co-organization by two top domestic eye care institutions — the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University and the Tianjin Eye Hospital affiliated with Nankai University — this congress served as a definitive "academic benchmark" in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology in China. It attracted over a thousand top experts, scholars, and clinical leaders from 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country, as well as from more than 10 countries and regions overseas, all gathering in Guangzhou for this academic event focused on cutting-edge developments and the future of the field.

Mr. Fu Chengbin, Director of the Optometry and Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital, was invited to attend the congress thanks to his professional expertise and regional influence in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology. He participated fully in academic exchanges, absorbed advanced concepts, and aligned himself with international diagnostic and treatment trends.

The 21st National Congress of Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology of the Chinese Medical Association

As one of the most authoritative and influential academic conferences in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology in China, this congress adhered to its core mission: "to promote the vigorous development of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology in China, strengthen domestic and international academic exchanges, and lead innovation and collaboration." Breaking down disciplinary barriers, the congress featured nearly 20 thematic forums, over 30 keynote speeches by experts, more than 10 sessions on complex case discussions, and demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies. It comprehensively covered six core areas: strabismus, amblyopia, pediatric eye diseases, pediatric optometry, pediatric eye care, and myopia prevention and control. In-depth discussions focused on current industry hot topics and diagnostic and treatment challenges. The four main themes of the congress — "precise intervention and long-term management of childhood myopia prevention and control," "minimally invasive surgical treatment and postoperative rehabilitation for complex strabismus," "multimodal diagnosis and individualized treatment plans for amblyopia," and "basic research and clinical translation of visual function development in children" — drew significant attention from all participants.

The congress invited the President of the International Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology Society (ISPOS), a professor of ophthalmology from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, and leading experts in strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology in China. These authorities shared cutting-edge research findings, new diagnostic and treatment technologies, and industry development trends. Many experts emphasized that childhood myopia prevention and control has entered an era of "precision, personalization, and full lifecycle management," requiring multidimensional data such as axial length monitoring and refractive status assessment to develop scientific intervention plans. Meanwhile, the diagnosis and treatment of complex strabismus are moving toward "minimally invasive, functional, and aesthetic" approaches, emphasizing the coordinated advancement of surgery and visual function rehabilitation to maximize the recovery of binocular visual function in children. These forward-looking perspectives provided new directions and ideas for clinical diagnosis and treatment in strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology in China.

Regarding his biggest takeaway from the congress, Director Fu Chengbin shared:

The academic value of this congress far exceeded my expectations. I was particularly inspired by the discussions on precise intervention for childhood myopia prevention and control and minimally invasive surgery for complex strabismus. The concept shared by experts — "dynamic axial length monitoring combined with personalized optical intervention" — aligns closely with the principle we adhere to in clinical practice: "early screening, early diagnosis, early intervention." This provides an important reference for refining our myopia prevention and control strategies. Additionally, through close exchanges with leading domestic and international experts, I gained a clearer understanding of how regional diagnosis and treatment can connect with international frontiers. This is highly significant for improving our clinical standards and better serving our pediatric patients.

Over more than 20 years, Director Fu Chengbin has worked deeply in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology. As the academic leader of the Optometry and Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital, Director Fu graduated from the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University. He has long focused on myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents, diagnosis and treatment of strabismus and amblyopia, and comprehensive optometry management. With his solid professional foundation and extensive clinical experience, he has become a key expert in this field in the region. He holds several industry positions, including the head of the Optometry and Strabismus Professional Group of Aier Eye Hospital in Guangdong Province and a member of the Strabismus and Amblyopia Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association. He actively participates in various academic exchanges, cutting-edge technology discussions, and the promotion of clinical diagnosis and treatment experience, continuously advancing the standardized diagnosis and treatment of myopia prevention and strabismus and amblyopia in the region.

In clinical practice, Director Fu Chengbin consistently follows industry frontiers and adheres to the principles of "precision and personalization." For childhood myopia prevention and control, he has led his team to establish a dynamic axial length monitoring system, developing "personalized plans" based on multidimensional data such as the child's age and refractive status. For children with strabismus and amblyopia, he emphasizes the coordinated advancement of surgical treatment and visual function rehabilitation, aiming to maximize the recovery of binocular visual function while improving appearance. This treatment philosophy, aligned with international frontiers, represents the core development direction of the Optometry and Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital.

The Optometry and Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital consistently holds itself to frontline industry standards. Leveraging the chain advantages of the Aier Eye Hospital Group and utilizing internationally advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment and technologies, the department has built a comprehensive pediatric eye health service system covering "examination-diagnosis-intervention-rehabilitation-follow-up." It integrates the advanced concepts conveyed at the congress into every aspect of daily diagnosis and treatment, striving to provide professional, high-quality pediatric eye health services that align with international standards for children and adolescents in Dongguan.

This participation not only broadened Director Fu Chengbin's academic horizons but also served as an important opportunity for Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital to align itself with domestic and international cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment concepts. In the future, Director Fu Chengbin will continue to lead his department team in optimizing diagnostic and treatment services and deepening their work in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology. Their goal is to enable more children and adolescents in Dongguan to access high-quality, advanced eye health services close to home, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of regional strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology services.
