Myopia Prevention and Control Month | Vice Principal Liu Yue Visits Campus to Educate Students on Eye Health, Safeguarding Their Clear Vision

DATE:2026-04-09   HITS:255

As spring ushers in a new chapter, it’s the perfect time to focus on eye care. Dongguan Dongcheng Qiyuan School recently hosted a special eye care event tailored for teenagers.

Dr. Liu Yue, a Master of Ophthalmology and a core member of the myopia prevention and control team at Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital, served as the school’s Vice Principal for Health and Wellness. She delivered a professional, engaging, and practical first lesson on eye care for the new school year to all faculty and students. Leveraging her advanced expertise, she safeguards the children’s clear “vision” and ensures their bright eyes accompany them as they grow toward the sun.

During the session, Dr. Liu Yue drew upon her years of clinical experience in myopia prevention and control among children and adolescents. Using plain language and examples relevant to school life, she transformed myopia prevention knowledge into practical tips that children could easily understand and implement. She not only focused on safeguarding eye health but also emphasized the holistic development of adolescents’ physical and mental well-being, deeply integrating professional medical knowledge with growth and health education. The session featured lively on-site interaction, and the principles of eye care took deep root in the hearts of every student.

Safeguarding a Clear “Vision” of the World: Building the Four Cornerstones of Eye Care

Addressing the current issues of myopia onset at an increasingly younger age and its rapid progression among adolescents, Dr. Liu Yue emphasized the core principles of scientific eye care. She outlined four key guidelines for students, integrating eye care into every detail of their daily academic and personal lives:

1 Embrace the Sunlight: Make Outdoor Activities Your “Miracle Cure” for Eye Health

Commit to at least two hours of outdoor activity daily, making full use of recess, PE classes, and the time spent commuting to and from school to soak up natural light. Sunlight stimulates the retina to release dopamine, making it the most cost-effective way to prevent myopia—a win-win for both physical activity and eye health.

2. Maintain Proper Posture to Protect Your Eyes While Reading and Writing

Strictly adhere to the “one foot, one fist, one inch” reading and writing standard. Maintain correct sitting posture and avoid reading while lying down or leaning to one side. This reduces eye strain at the source and supports healthy eye development.

3. Use Your Eyes Scientifically: Practice the 20-20-20 Rule

Every 20 minutes of close-up work, look up and focus on a point 6 meters away for 20 seconds to allow the ciliary muscles to relax; limit non-academic screen time to no more than 15 minutes per session to prevent screen light from damaging vision.

4. Regular Monitoring: Be the Guardian of Your Own Vision

Develop the habit of getting regular eye exams and maintain a personal vision record. If you experience blurred vision, frequent eye rubbing, or squinting, inform your parents and teachers immediately to ensure early detection, early intervention, and early prevention.

At the same time, Dr. Liu Yue reminded students that a balanced diet and regular sleep patterns are also crucial for eye health. Limit high-sugar snacks and ensure adequate sleep to provide your eyes with sufficient nutrition and rest during their development.

Cultivate a Positive Mindset to Unlock Emotional Growth

“True health is the radiance that comes from mind and body being in harmony,” Dr. Liu Yue emphasized during the class. She noted that adolescent development requires not only clear vision but also a healthy psyche. Drawing on core methods of psychological adjustment, she shared four tips for emotional growth with the students, guiding them to embrace the new semester with a positive mindset:

Embrace Your Emotions and Be Gentle with Yourself

The journey of growth brings both joy and worries; confusion and anxiety are normal emotions. Learning to recognize and accept these emotions is the first step in emotional regulation.

Build Connections and Create a Warm Support System

You don’t have to bear the pressure alone. Parents, teachers, and classmates are all reliable people to confide in. Taking the initiative to communicate and seek help is both brave and wise.

Cultivate Passion: Create a “Backyard” for Your Soul

Develop hobbies and interests to relieve academic stress through activities you enjoy. Plan your time wisely, replace anxiety with action, and draw strength for growth from your passions.

Seek Help Bravely: Protect Your Mental Health

If negative emotions continue to affect your studies or daily life, seek help promptly from a school counselor, parent, or professional. Just as you’d see a doctor when physically ill, this is a sign of taking responsibility for yourself.

Liu Yue, Vice Principal for Health and Wellness

A Professional Guardian of Adolescents’ Healthy Growth

As the newly appointed Vice Principal for Health and Wellness at Dongcheng Qiyuan School, Dr. Liu Yue issues the following call to action to all students:

School is a temple of knowledge, but even more so, it is a paradise for healthy growth. This semester, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital will collaborate closely with the school to provide routine campus health services through diverse initiatives such as eye care education classes, vision screenings, themed class meetings, and the establishment of vision health records.

Every student should strive to be the primary guardian of their own health, starting with scientific eye care, a positive mindset, and good habits, so that they can embark on the new semester with clear vision, a strong physique, and a positive attitude.

Schools and Medical Institutions Unite to Build a Defense Line, Striving Together for a Brilliant Future

Just as the spring breeze nurtures peach and plum trees, eye care accompanies growth. This first eye care lesson at the start of the school year represents a significant initiative by Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital to deepen the “Vice Principal for Health and Wellness” campus outreach program and advance the National Myopia Prevention and Control Awareness Month campaign. As a professional institution deeply rooted in the field of eye health, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital, with its team of master’s and doctoral degree holders specializing in myopia prevention and control at its core, not only focuses on precise prevention and personalized interventions for myopia in adolescents but also pays comprehensive attention to their physical and mental well-being.

Moving forward, the hospital will continue to leverage its professional expertise to bring master’s and doctoral-level ophthalmology resources to more schools, weaving a dense network of eye health protection across campuses. With professionalism and compassion, we will safeguard the bright eyes of every child, empowering adolescents to write their own brilliant stories of youth with a clear “view” of the world!
